This season, the unforgettable season 0f 2021, has given us things we will never forget as fans. Not everything is measured in Lombardi Trophies, but in the legendary we remember and pass on as fans. Let us, then, as the 2021 season draws to a close, remember all that the New York Football Giants have given us:
1. Boneheaded penalties due to lack of discipline that cost games.
2. A first-round draft choice named Yung Joka who, in the best of the games he actually did play (which were rather few due to injuries and possibly preventable illnesses), got himself ejected for throwing punches. That discipline!
3. A head coach who fired his OC and managed to replace his schemes with worse ones
4. Post-game pressers by said coach that suggested that psychiatric medications were indicated
5. The infamous #mustanglover whose disguised attempts at damage control were laughable
6. A $70-million-dollar WR FA for whom the end zone was a live minefield
7. One of the all-time worst passing performances ever from a New York Giants by a backup who was already a bona fide NFL player
8. Another season over by Veteran's Day, in which the phrase "possible playoff contention" never entered the vocabulary
9. A shutout for the Pro Bowl roster
10. Another season of double-digit losses constituting a record for the franchise
11. A refusal to draft a single offensive lineman accompanied by a smug and insulting explanation
12. A kicker whose sum total of points approaches half the team's production
13. An injury list that rivals the Battle of Tarawa
14. A GM who broke every promise he was hired on for the fourth consecutive year
15. Bills covering the damages caused by flying trash baskets
16. Another last-place finish
17. More time-outs wasted than the Pentagon's budget items
18. An incredible, possibly never-to-be-repeated 71-0 deficit in the last two minutes of halves - with one game yet to go.
19. The worst and most ridiculed fan appreciation promotion ever devised
20. Hopes pinned on practice squad never-weres and never-will-bes due to lack of smart drafting for depth
22. Being outnumbered by Cowboys fans in that dreary venue
23. Cheering for a five-yard run or seven-yard pass.
24. Mighty struggles to score ten points.
25. A nepotistic family that runs the team using methods dating back to the Industrial Age and refusing to change any of it
26. 1,534 assistant coaches who presided over continuing regression of the players entrusted to them.
27. Universal apathy/rage/disgust across our entire fanbase
28. Clock mismangement that compounded small on-field disasters into larger ones
29. A now-viral image of the Giants management and coach as hapless clowns.
30. The continuing horror show of prime-time games which are automatic losses.
31. The joy of being double-digit underdogs at home
32. Celebrating the worst record in the NFL over five years, and never going above 27 in any power ranking during the entire season
33. Watching the Cowboys and Eagles clinch playoff spots
34. The gloomiest game-day threads in professional sports
Now, I'm sure that there are things I missed, so feel free to pile on! My only point was - the 2021 Giants haven't exactly given us nothing!
