I think we are all putting to much into the GM and Head Coach for getting this thing turned around. Great teams have great people in place throughout there staff. That’s the key to this. Yes Schoen is important and so is whoever he hires as a head coach. But there staff that they assemble is even more important.
Let’s look at the 4 final teams in the playoffs for example. Let’s talk about there success. 49ers for example. This is an perfect example of a good staff both in the front office and coaching. That 49ers defense last few year has been consistent abs solid. They are deep on that roster accross that defense. It’s not all Lynch but Peters and the scouting directors and scouts themselves. They all know exactly what kind of player to scout and how to put together there board and what free agents they are interested in. That’s a great job
Look at the coaching. These players have to be developed as well. That’s the assistant coaches. Your linebackers coach, secondary coach Dline coach etc. and look. Sala leaves for the Jets. They had an assistant in place that took over as the defensive coordinator and never missed a beat.
That’s a great staff there. All the teams. Chiefs, Packers etc. look at Arians. He has good defensive and offensive coordinators in place. It makes him look good.
That’s where Judge failed. And Gettleman failed. They didn’t build a good enough staff around them. You can direct and tell these guys what to do all you want. If they can’t get the job done. It makes you look bad
That’s where Schoen needs to get it right. Let’s pray his NFL ties are deep in this league. Pray he has great future GMs and scouts in mind. Ready for there chance. Let’s pray his head coach he hires has the same ties. That’s why I want the Reid tree. It’s deep in this league. Reid has coaches under him all throughout the league that have similar backgrounds and similar schemes. So If it is Daboll. He can dip into so many teams to build his staff. Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, old Eagles, old Bears etc. they all have ties with Reid’s tree. Schoen scouting will not have to be changed much or at all. He can continue to scout accordingly with minimum changes. That’s why I would go Daboll or Pederson here.
I would think go Flores. I wouldn’t. Quinn has some good connections and he could very easily go the Shanahan tree. Because that’s who worked under him with success in Atlanta. So I’m ok with that.
Those are my 3 front runners
Daboll
Quinn
Pederson
I don’t think Pederson will get an interview though
