I posted yesterday what seemed like a compelling argument...Allen's low percentage rate makes him less than the top prospect and maybe even spells a promised gone wrong.
Tilfer, who I respect, had a very different take. He says accuracy in not the same thing as completion percentage. He points out that his receivers couldn't handle the steam that Allen applied. And he emphasized that he wasn't talking about a lack of touch..either but "steam" appropriate to the situation.
He and several other people I've heard lately said that this is probably the best arm that has ever come into the NFL. And that's a helluva lot stronger than saying "he has a great arm,"
They noted that he was the only one to hit the crossbar from thirty yards out, that he did in his first try and that's a better indicator than percentage.
They said he could drop a ball in a bucket from fifty yards away.
I don't if I'm weak minded or open minded. Or as Steven Wright said, I try to keep an open mind but my brains keep falling out."
Truth is, all these guys know more than me and I am influenced... and I would say appropriately so. I'm more interested in Allen's potential regard the second round pick. If Allen is in the mix and there are three QB's Clev likes almost equally, Ithink they go Barkely and go QB at four. If there's two good QB's only , I think they have to go QB.
I think (without any real knowledge) that Darnold and Barkley are the guys we want and the only tough decision is if they're both there.
Frankly, I (we?) have overthought this so much it will be relief to get it over with. But we should sign a pact now to forgoe talking and second guessing the draft until the season is half way over. .
