That's a reasonable conclusion, although I'm not there yet regarding the ceiling.
I think we should dispense with the "elite" rating on QB's. It's a term coined by lazy sportswriters in order to create and write about QB controversies. There are no elite QB's on bad teams. Aaron Rogers is one of the all-time greats, although he's reportedly deteriorated this year (or is it because his receivers now suck). Tom Brady is an above average QB who played for the greatest franchise of all time. He knows this, otherwise he wouldn't be trying to jump ship annually for the next best up and coming team. His remains the acknowledged GOAT regarding throwing hissy fits at his team-mates and lobbying the refs for roughing calls every-time a defender comes with a foot of him. DJ just can't hold a candle to him there.
Barkley wasn't having a great game last night until Washington loaded up the box, and Jones laced them for a 25-yard gain on a bootleg. Shortly thereafter, Barkley rattled off 3 consecutive first down runs. That was no co-incidence.
According to Collinsworth, Daniel Jones still has to prove himself. His offensive line couldn't pass protect, was jumping off-sides all night and the receivers were dropping balls. Taylor Heinicke (who by the way lost the game) is covered in "fairy dust" (whatever that means). He only has a great offensive line, a great running back and a fleet of dangerous receivers.
Too many giant fans are listening to half-wits like Collinsworth mailing it in with his pre-game script. DJ plays his ass off. The giant organization loves him, and the opposition respects him (and likely doesn't want to find out what his ceiling is with a good offense). Whatever the Schoen-Daboll Plan is going forward, it includes Jones.
I think what it comes down to with Jones is consistency. We do this every tie Jones gets a win or plays well. Some get all nutty and think Jones is a stud.
For me it’s always been consistent play and need more of it. We can’t have him give us 2 or 3 games like this and think he is the answer. It needs to happen every game The more consistent he is the better they will be
