Last few games ... things haven't gone the way the season started ... doesn't feel good, guess we were all hoping (believing???) that Schoen/Daboll had that magic touch
Reality check ...
This team is severely undermanned. The constant shuffling of the O-Line, except for Thomas, and I trust Neal will make a jump in improved play next year. I don't need to say anything more about the WR's. The defense has over performed all season BUT the reality is the run defense has been spotty at best, the LB's are too hit and miss, and except for Adoree Jackson the DB's have been mediocre. I think Schoen and the coaching staff have done a remarkable job of getting the team to this point. But now that the games mean more and the schedule has gotten tougher the lack of physical talent on this team is glaring. Just look at the Thanksgiving game, I despise Dallas as much as anyone, but the cold hard truth is they have better players across the board. Watching Micah Parsons wreak havoc in the 4th quarter drove me up the wall thinking that he was there for Gettleman to pick ... ARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!
I have said and continue to believe that the Schoen/Daboll team can and will lead this team out of the woods and back to prominence but we need to be patient and realistic. I was hopeful that maybe 3 years would be a realistic time frame to rebuild but I am beginning to think it might actually be 4 years. I shouldn't bring up the Reese/Gettleman years but what we are seeing is the culmination of years of bad management.
Which leads me to the Daniel Jones question. I am not, and never was, a huge fan of the pick/player. That being said there is no doubt he has made progress under Daboll/Kafka. But the question is; is he the long term answer at QB for this team? While I don't believe that he is I will offer this to his supporters. The Giants need to win 3 games to have a realistic chance at a playoff spot. If Daniel Jones wants to convince me (and I am only a lowly fan) that he is the answer then I need to see him be the reason that the Giants win at least 2 of the 3 games needed. I know he doesn't have the supporting cast that he needs but show me he can step it up, put the team in his back, and lead them to victory.
And there are other things I have thought about; Thibodeaux needs an offseason in the weight room - I would swallow my pride and play Golladay the rest of the way, maybe you catch lightning in a bottle and you build a trade market for him - how much are you willing to pay Barkley? I have to think Schoen/Daboll would rather have a group of RB's than one lead back - The Giants NEED a new strength & fitness outlook/coach, I can't believe that EVERY injury is related to the turf.
Should be a fun trip to see what Schoen and Daboll can come up with over the next few seasons.
