Have to admit I never expected the Giants to make the playoffs this year ... and, to be honest, I kind of wish they hadn't ... before I am hung from the tallest tree in sight her me out ... making the playoffs only slows down the rebuilding, lower draft choice and tougher schedule ... oh well, it is what it is ... Kudo's to Schoen, Daboll, and company!!!
Here is what I see happening ... and I'll probably be wrong on all accounts ...
- Draft - would not be shocked to see Schoen & Daboll concentrate on defense, the playoff loss to Philly showed that the defense is slow, doesn't tackle well, and needs better coverage players (both DB and LB) if they go Offense I expect the OL to be their primary concentration
- WR, I think there will be opportunities to address the position in Free Agency or through trade ... unless they can acquire some extra draft capital via trade
- I expect Free Agancy to be busy, just not "WOW! we signed X" ... help along the OL, a WR (maybe 2), and Defensive depth
- Barkley and Jones ... this one is hard, I believe the team would like both back but I really don't think they are going to break the bank in either years or $$$ Barkley had a wonderful year and you coud say he was the heart and soul of the team but look at the Eagles, they have 3 backs that they can run out there at any time and not have a drop-off ... Jones ... I don't see him as a $30 million/year player right now and I think the comment that Daboll made that he is a "good" player speaks loudly about what the heirarchy think ... because of their draft position and the available Free Agent pool I expect him to get a 2, maybe 3, year deal heavy on incentives ... and if both turn down these offers I don't think Schoen/Daboll will panic, they'll do what they have to and move on
- I am very excited for the future of the team, sure I wish there was a snap their fingers and everything was better way to get better but I see the team doing better and being built for the long term not just a one year wonder
