Ok, a disclaimer. I'm giddy, I think the draft fell our way and everything is in place for a year that sees the NYG become serious contenders.
I haven't felt this strongly since the 2016 edition had me dreaming of plum pudding and silver trophies. And there's the rub: I'm always giddy and a believer at this time of year...no sales resistance i suppose to the company line and barely equipped to be an observer, much less an oracle. So with those disqualifications noted..
I have been a believer in Jones since his rookie year. No preseason and Eli staarting the first two games and still he set rookie records. Extremely accurate, can make the deep throw with sufficent arm talent, a hard worker who notes and fixes defects, a leader and great straight line speed.
I think he's joined by one of the great running backs.
Both have suffered from among the worst group of receivers in NFL history and a porous line that lacked talent as well as continuity.
What a difference a year makes and Evan Engram brings addition from subtraction.
Hyatt on one side, Slayton on the other and Waller threatens the underbelly, now the corners MUSt play ten yeards of the line and Saquon has that much more to work with.
Now the bugaboo enters and so does some wishing wells. Evan has to get better, Schmiditt has to perform from day one.
I think both are "much more likely than not" and if not "not" well, there's Not much more to wish for.
I think Ezudu also contributes, I hope Brenson beats out Glowinski. You never get much more than half of what you hope for, but if things turn out right, this line can go, in one year, from botten quarter of the league to top ten or even top five.
Keys to the offense and not just the O line...Evan, Schmiddt...
Gidiness in full swing...QB, Rb, Ol, TE all premium.
And.....So many bodies, so much potential, another rags to riches unit...Isiah Hodkins, Wandell Robinson, Shepard for my possession types; Slayon, Paris Campbell, Hyatt to stretch the field for Saquon and Waller....Maybe the fastest overall offenese (counting Jones) and if this is what the Kool Aid does...keep it coming...and always the sum greater than the parts because of the offensive coordinator.
So, unqualified or not, I'm optomistic and, actually, way beyond that.
