I think Prescott has limited arm talent, but he's smart and does his homework.
And they match up against us. You can bet they will go after the two rookies with Lamb, Gallup and whatever other villians conjured from Jone's cellar..
Reasons that won't work (I hope):
1. These are two very special and talented rooks. I could see small time Hawkins being overwhelmed early by the magnitude and pressure of the game. Pick on him early at least I think that might be their gameplan.
But Winks likes man and Jackson is going to likely take on Lamb wherever he goes.
so the rooks are going to be left with coverages they can handle
And if the can't?
1. We have an abundance of talent at safety. Several can play corner. Belton is going to be a force this year and he can't start....Pinnock (sp?) and Xaviar have that honor.
Jackson in front of them...Xman and a host of Heroes in back.
2. I've compared this GiaNT defense A.S. (after Simmons) potentially (*and maybe prematurally ) to the jailbreaks Ryan's 85 Bears brought. OK, that's grandiosity but how can any line handle our front six...because I think
Simmons will be a monster, I think fellow monsters williams and Lawrence occupy four blockers - and if they don't get that attention can collapse Prescotts pocket from within.
even if that doesnt happen. after accounting for those two...there's unfired bullets in the chamber....
Simmons, Olujari and Thibs.. and straight up - IE without Wink's alchemizing - I don't see ANY line handling that trio with the rhinos they have in front of them.
3. If the rooks do prove vulnerable there's two safeties who can play corner, there's Holmes and Flott who have played in pressure games. Not ideal, but Wink can cover for them.
This giant defense is light years better (on paper at least) than last year: Simmons alone makes that so. Olujari is healthy; 2 impact rooks added; Thibs and Belton in years of maximum growth; Wiiliams is healthy; Robinson and Okulari (sp?) are critical impact .
I am normally giddy in preseason and I normally think of scenarios where the blue emerges victoriously.
This year I'm thinking about how they can lose -
I'm finding it rough going.
