Something WAS not right. And the coaches knew it. I go back to the no good horrible press conference the head coach and the General Manager had before the season--the one that made me explode.
I realize now I was 100% correct. When coach's and GM's talk like this they know they have losing squad.
Every Year is different. Really coach? Is not the whole point to build something in which every year is the same showing improvement over the one before? Do you think powerhouses like the 49ers and Chiefs think every year is different? Why is this year different than the last-- why not just say it-- we have a real schedule this year by the way last year was a complete layup... why not just admit the truth?
General manager Joe Schoen stressed that it's much too soon to assess if the roster he, his staff, and the Giants coaching staff assembled is better or worse than last year's overachieving group that finished 9-7-1 and with a postseason berth.
"Yeah, we'll see," the second-year general manager said. "It's too early to tell. We gotta get these guys out there and see how they click together. We brought in some new pieces-- (tight end) Darren Waller, (linebacker) Bobby Okereke, and the two young corners (Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins). So we will see how this group comes together. "
Fair enough, but there's probably little doubt that, on paper, the Giants have a much better roster, which should allow the coaches to play matchup football.
Schoen also punted on a question about what litmus test he would be looking at to assess the progress of the roster. To the outside observer, a good one would be being more competitive in the division, where last year, the Giants finished 1-4-1 and where they haven't had a winning record since 2020 when they went 4-2.
Schoen, however, doesn't see it that way. " I mean, we were 1-4-1 in the division last year, and we made the playoffs," he quipped when asked if winning the division games carried a little more weight. "I mean, they're all important."
That answer freaked me out and it should of been a siren call to all Giant fans that this guy is in way over his heard.
Daboll, meanwhile, sounded pleased with how the team came through training camp but agreed with Schoen about there still being a few more weeks before they find out about the kind of team they have.
"I think we got better from where we started," he said. "But again, until you start playing and in regular season games and adversity strikes and how you respond to things, there's a lot of things, you can't take it from one year to the next. Why can't you? The Ravens take each year like the ending of the year before they build their team to beat the Steelers . Period. Hello!!!! Why don't we do this? WHY DON'T WE BUILD OUR TEAM TO BEAT DALLAS? TO BEAT THE EAGLES?
"It's a different team--30 percent of the guys are different, and different things will happen. You're playing different opponents. You really gotta learn your team as you go in the regular season; you just don't pick up where you left off last year or in the preseason. We're just grinding along here. We have worked hard, and we'll get a couple of days here off, and then we'll get going here on Dallas."
Coach Daboll at least kind of said it; he slipped it in late there you're playing different opponents-- yea coach one's that can also play.
Why are we 30% different? Why would you do that to last year's team? What does that create in the locker room? Is that attitude combined with the Jones overpay the reasons why the coaches have apparently lost this team.? No-one is buying in.
I truly wonder if there is a conspiracy. The way Daboll is not taking control here is weird. I can't put my finger on it but starting two rookies at corner, shedding 30% of a nice wining squad... it seems on purpose. The idea: run Saquan until his wheels come off became oh no his wheel came off. And then you were left with Daniel.
The look of disgust on Daboll's face when he threw that tablet and shook his head... Go back to last year when we were talking about does Daboll Like Jones or Love jones, well go freeze frame that moment and you'll have your answer-- he's done with Jones.
And so are the fans. What was a few brave souls shouting into the night has become a overwhelming tsunami of mistrust toward s Daniel Jones. This is what happens when you take everyone's money, when you take away the future ability to pay others, and you deter superstars from coming here-- they want a real QB. You drive a wedge in the locker room. That whole team last year believed in Barkley not Danny and that whole team saw management reward Danny not Barkley. Taking skin tone out of the picture and just focusing on talent-- you paid the guy who never wins against the big teams in your division, who never wins in prime time and who fumbles balls and throws interceptions left and right and refused to throw the ball down the field more than ten yards... and you gave that guy all the money in the world...and stiffed Barkley. What did that do to the locker room?
This years NY Giant squad has not bought in to Dabbol. It may be the Coach should spoken up during negotiations.
I have never felt a NY Giant team that felt more separated from reality, more distant and who care less about football. Even in the Judge times it was different, more scrappy and then crappy. This team is just crappy.
The Coach and his every year is different mantra-- is Brian rolling the dice that next year we will have an easier schedule and a new QB in the fold. Maybe that QB won't start but he'll be there and next years will different. And eventually the coach will be right.
Next year.
Did the Giants take one look at their schedule and decide to not compete? The Pre season was a joke. The O line it doesn't look like much care was given at all to this glaring need... Why? Well every year is different and this one doesn't matter.. The plan was to wait till an easier schedule rolls around again and then use what's left of our playoff squad to go to battle then.
We strive for constancy in the league, we strive to create a brand, an image of toughness, of some things never change. We used to have that here. Our Defense- No matter what our record was our NYG D would sock you in the mouth. We don't have that anymore because we are not drafting serious people. And we are not holding players accountable, we don't have the type of team leaders that can ignite other players and we are generally soft.
Head coaches make their imprint. The team takes on the personalty traits of the coach but then you shed 30% of the team? What was that about?
Hey. Fine if you do it, but replace with talent, don't come back all whiny about Every Year is Different and you have all these new players-- you made that choice-- you signed that deal with Jones.. Why?
Is their a conspiracy here?
Jones is useless with out Barkley. Did we really need this year to know that? If fans had thought back a little more clearly to how we won early last year... or even looked carefully at our comeback in Arizona why that happened--Barkley.
Knowing what they do now would Schoen show more respect towards Barkley in the process?
Darren Waller. What a tragic mistake. I hate these type of NFL players-so soft! They are fake to the extreme. What a west coast joke. I was worried I had never seen this guy play, never really heard of him.. I don't watch much more than the NY Giants if I can help it... But this new weapon has misfired. Waller is not a factor at all and a waste money big time.
What is the answer this year coach? Yea we get it- every year is different... But us fans only have so many years on this earth and we really can't afford to be giving one away. The Season has just started and we are the laughing stock the league. What are you going to do about that Coach?
This Year.
That press conference told us everything we needed to know: The GM doesn't think NFC East games matter any more than other games because ' we still made the playoffs. '
But every year is different Joe... maybe check in with the old man upstairs before you say stupid chatter like that.
If I had been in the Press pool at this event they would of had to remove me in chains.--THEY KNEW!!!!!!!
THEY KNEW THIS WAS COMING!!!!!!!
TO BE CONTINUED-
