I have been bullish on the Schoen/Daboll team since they were hired. Just a feeling that the Giants got those hires right and were going to make strides. Even going into this year I was never convinced that the team was ready to make that jump. But after the game today I hate to admit that there is the reality that anpther house cleaning is at least a possibility. Ugh ... almost believe in a curse ...
So, I am going to think, and believe, that Schoen/Daboll are going to get this right and in a few years the Giants will be a legitimate playoff team. In the meantime there are things that need to be answered and/or thought about:
- what in the world happened to Evan Neal, coming out of Alabama he was a consensus Rd 1 pick, last year he showed glimpses of being a good player ... is it mental or physical? coaching? did everyone have it wrong last year? whatever it is, it needs to be found out, is it worth keeping him (at guard or tackle?) or is there something wrong with the coaching that caused this (to my non-scout eyes he looks slow and confused)
- why can't this team stay healthy? how many years is it now that every week it seems there is one or more players that go down and miss a game or two ... or more? I understand the turf question but DJ went down today on a grass field and no contact (although I think he was rushed back today ... that's a strike on Schoen/Daboll)
- whatever happened to Ojulari? why has McKinney seemed to regress? why do the WR's look so much worse than they did last year? like Neal there has to be questions asked and decisions made
- 2, maybe 3, days after the trade deadline I read that after the Williams trade, Schoen's phone was ringing off the hook asking about Barkley, Jackson, and other players but that John Mara put the lid on more trades because he was concerned about how the team would "look" to the fans ... IF this is true that is a HUGE issue ... I think the article I read credited Ian Rapaport with that information
- I said this a few weeks ago, I believe Schoen NEEDS to do a press conference (bye week would be good) and say what he thinks went wrong this season (I believe Schoen/Daboll grossly overrated the team and what happened last year) and give an idea about what needs to be done and what his plan(s) are for correcting the team ... I know he isn't going to give details but reassure the fans that he is disappointed and upset with what is going on and he is determined to turn this around
I guess the reality at this point is it's time to think about the draft. Schoen really needs to hit it out of the park this draft. QB, OL, WR, LB ... new coaches ... there is a lot to be done!
