Do you really think you could convince a team made up of coaches and players whose futures depend on their performance to intentionally lose games or not give 100% effort in practice and games ?
The subject has been widely discussed in the media and even featured on shows like Good Morning Football, pre-game shows etc. The common response to tanking is that your effort is captured on tape. You aren't asking super stars to give less than 100% you're most likely asking average or borderline players on bad teams to deliberately not give their best effort. Just exactly how are these players going to hang on and continue to play in the NFL is their less than 100% effort is captured on tape.
Do you actually think you could get a group of 53 individuals who have most likely been spoiled all their lives, have sacrificed so much to get to the NFL that once there they will give less than 100% and for who a team that has no loyalty to them and would cut them in a minute with no security. You think a group of 53 men would all agree it's better to lose and better a team that you may not be on next year ?
I wonder what a player who has incentives in his contract would feel if he knew he wasn't reaching them because others weren't giving their best effort ??
In case you haven't figured it out players have a different mind set than fans. Giants go on a 4 game losing streak and fans are going crazy. Players are trying to figure out how then win the next game because the 4 losses are behind them. Listen to the greats like Derek Jeter. He never worried if they were a half game out of first or 10 or if there was 1 team in front of them or 4. His mantra was we can only worry about our team and take care of our business and not worry about other teams.
Saquon who is playing for a contract would tank, DeVito would tank and give up a chance to be a back-up in the NFL, anyone with performance incentives would gladly sacrifice them for a better draft pick Coaches would purposefully draw up bad plays to tank ?
I'm going to risk my security and reputation for a team and owner that owes me nothing other than my contract and an organization that could cut me at any moment What would motivate me to tank as a coach or player ?
