Post Draft Summary by Position Room (Updated 5/7/24)
OL
I am putting the OL at the top of the list because if a substantial improvement is not achieved this season, then the Giants are in a huge mess. For me it would be the 1970s all over again. I think that the free agency signings of Runyan, Eluemunor, Stinnie, Schlottmann, and Nelson along with the carryovers of Thomas, Neal, Schmitz and Ezeudu as well as the signings of undrafted free agents provides sufficient talent to put together a starting 5 offensive linemen and depth to achieve a middle of the pack performance level. It is up to the coaches to make it happen
QB
If there is a room where the opinions of fans vary the most, I think it is the QB room. For me there are two scenarios one of which will become reality. The first is Jones stays healthy and performs at a level that justifies the contract that he is currently on. The second is multifaceted. In addition to Jones not performing well enough to justify the contract he is on, how Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito play determines how Schoen proceeds in 2025.
RB
With the additions of free agent Devin Singletary along with the drafting of Tyrone Tracey there appears to be sufficient depth to have an effective running game by committee.
TE
The free agency signings of Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz represents a significant addition of veteran experience. Waller is still undecided about retiring. I suspect that the additions of Stoll and Manhertz is in anticipation of Waller retiring. Without Waller the TE room would likely include some combination of Stoll, Manhertz, Bellinger, Cager and draft pick Theo Johnson.
WR
The drafting of Malik Nabers upgrades the WR room to a point that the Giants have the potential of a top 10 or better receiving corp. The separation ability of Nabers gives Jones a consistent target to rely on. Nabers yardage after catch gives the Giants a deep and break away threat that they haven't had since the drafting of Odell Beckum Jr. His presence should offset any impact that the loss of Barkley represents. In addition, his presence should allow Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Isiah Hopkins to be more effective than they have been to date. The depth of wide receivers on the roster including special team specialist Gunner Olszewski should yield a great deal of competition for the 53 man roster.
DL
Dexter Lawrence and Nunez-Roches are a formidable pair of defensive tackles. However, when one or both are resting then there is a significant drop off. The free agency signing of Jordan Phillips should provide the Giants with a formidable threesome. The fourth rotational DT will have to come from one of the young defensive tackles that are on the roster. D.J. Davidson and Jordan Riley appear to be the most likely to capture that fourth rotational DT position.
LB
The addition of free agent OLB Brian Burns should provide the kind of pass rush that Giants fans expect. While the addition of Burns significantly improved the OLB corps, nothing was done in free agency or the draft to improve the ILB corp. Last year the Giants brought in Okereke via free agency to address a very weak ILB corps. The Giants still need another high quality ILBer. The other ILBs on the Giants roster include Beavers, Coughlin, Dyontae Johnson, McFadden, and Simmons. McFadden has shown some promise and is only 24 years old. Coming out of college he showed excellent lateral speed and very good ability to know where the play is going. However his ability to take on blockers head on and to tackle head on was not particularly good which in part explains being drafted in the fifth round in 2022. If he can continue to improve in those two areas, it is conceivable that the run support that ILBers must give the interior DL could improve substantially. Simmons is a unique situation. Jointly the new coaching staff and Simmons have to find a role for Simmons that takes advantage of his incredible athletic abilities. If that happens, stuffing the run and defending TEs could become a consistent part of the Giants defense.
DB
The Giants appear to have drafted a steal in safety Tyler Nubin. His draft profile projects him to be a day 1 starter and eventually be among the better safeties in the league. While Nubin appears to be destined to form a solid safety duo with Jason Pinnock, the Giants third round draft of CB Andru Phillips is a head scratcher. What the Giants need is a complementary CB to Deonte Banks. Phillips may develop into a solid to good slot CB, but it is doubtful that he is going to be that complementary CB. The hope would be that McCloud, Holmes, Hawkins, Flott or Aaron Robinson can become that complementary CB.
Special Teams
The free agency signing of Matthew Adams and the drafting of Darius Muasau adds depth to the LB corps but appears to be an effort to upgrade special teams. The new rules for kick offs appear to favor the return team and puts a priority on players that do well in the return game. Adams has a great deal of experience on special teams and Muasau is known to excel on special teams. Tracey and Olszewski have the potential to form an excellent combination for kickoff and punt returns. Gano had a bad year kicking after five excellent years. Given that cutting Gano represents a 7.2mm CAP savings, it will be interesting to see who Schoen brings in to compete with Gano. Gillan, who is only 27 years old, had a very solid year punting for the Giants. His net average punt improved from 40.6 to 42.3 while maintaining an average length of 46 yards per punt. This suggests that he is getting more height on his punts. This is Gillan's last year of a two year contract. It might make sense to extend his contract rather than let him hit free agency in 2025. Long snapper Casey Keiter and has been on a series of one year contracts since joining the Giants in 2000. His 2024 contract is fully guaranteed.
2024 Team Evaluation & Salary Cap Analysis (Updated 3/28/24)
This article explains the current Giants CAP situation very well. The article also explains the difference between effective CAP (what a team has to work with) vs the total number shown at overthecap.com or spotrac.com. The only mistake in the article is that the practice squad does not count towards the CAP. Only the 53 man roster counts towards the CAP during the season and only 51 players count towards the CAP prior to the regular season.

This 2024 New York Giants Free Agency Tracker provides a description of the free agent signings to date. Burns' addition makes the DL quite formidable. His presence should complement Lawrence and Thibodeaux in a very positive manner. Overall Schoen has addressed the OL with multiple signings. On paper the Giants have a talent level along the OL that should allow the coaching staff to put together a respectful OL. In addition to enhancing the DL with the addition of Brian Burns, Schoen has begun to address roster depth by re-signing a number of his own young free agents as well as a number of roster depth type free agents from other teams. Three other key signings include QB Drew Lock, KR Gunner Olszewski and RB Devin Singletary. Drew Lock becomes a veteran back up to Daniel Jones. Olszewski is a highly regarded KR. Singletary becomes a key addition to a running back by committee approach to the running game.

OL
I am putting the OL at the top of the list because if a substantial improvement is not achieved this season, then the Giants are in a huge mess. For me it would be the 1970s all over again. I think that the free agency signings of Runyan, Eluemunor, Stinnie, Schlottmann, and Nelson along with the carryovers of Thomas, Neal, Schmitz and Ezeudu as well as the signings of undrafted free agents provides sufficient talent to put together a starting 5 offensive linemen and depth to achieve a middle of the pack performance level. It is up to the coaches to make it happen
QB
If there is a room where the opinions of fans vary the most, I think it is the QB room. For me there are two scenarios one of which will become reality. The first is Jones stays healthy and performs at a level that justifies the contract that he is currently on. The second is multifaceted. In addition to Jones not performing well enough to justify the contract he is on, how Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito play determines how Schoen proceeds in 2025.
RB
With the additions of free agent Devin Singletary along with the drafting of Tyrone Tracey there appears to be sufficient depth to have an effective running game by committee.
TE
The free agency signings of Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz represents a significant addition of veteran experience. Waller is still undecided about retiring. I suspect that the additions of Stoll and Manhertz is in anticipation of Waller retiring. Without Waller the TE room would likely include some combination of Stoll, Manhertz, Bellinger, Cager and draft pick Theo Johnson.
WR
The drafting of Malik Nabers upgrades the WR room to a point that the Giants have the potential of a top 10 or better receiving corp. The separation ability of Nabers gives Jones a consistent target to rely on. Nabers yardage after catch gives the Giants a deep and break away threat that they haven't had since the drafting of Odell Beckum Jr. His presence should offset any impact that the loss of Barkley represents. In addition, his presence should allow Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Isiah Hopkins to be more effective than they have been to date. The depth of wide receivers on the roster including special team specialist Gunner Olszewski should yield a great deal of competition for the 53 man roster.
DL
Dexter Lawrence and Nunez-Roches are a formidable pair of defensive tackles. However, when one or both are resting then there is a significant drop off. The free agency signing of Jordan Phillips should provide the Giants with a formidable threesome. The fourth rotational DT will have to come from one of the young defensive tackles that are on the roster. D.J. Davidson and Jordan Riley appear to be the most likely to capture that fourth rotational DT position.
LB
The addition of free agent OLB Brian Burns should provide the kind of pass rush that Giants fans expect. While the addition of Burns significantly improved the OLB corps, nothing was done in free agency or the draft to improve the ILB corp. Last year the Giants brought in Okereke via free agency to address a very weak ILB corps. The Giants still need another high quality ILBer. The other ILBs on the Giants roster include Beavers, Coughlin, Dyontae Johnson, McFadden, and Simmons. McFadden has shown some promise and is only 24 years old. Coming out of college he showed excellent lateral speed and very good ability to know where the play is going. However his ability to take on blockers head on and to tackle head on was not particularly good which in part explains being drafted in the fifth round in 2022. If he can continue to improve in those two areas, it is conceivable that the run support that ILBers must give the interior DL could improve substantially. Simmons is a unique situation. Jointly the new coaching staff and Simmons have to find a role for Simmons that takes advantage of his incredible athletic abilities. If that happens, stuffing the run and defending TEs could become a consistent part of the Giants defense.
DB
The Giants appear to have drafted a steal in safety Tyler Nubin. His draft profile projects him to be a day 1 starter and eventually be among the better safeties in the league. While Nubin appears to be destined to form a solid safety duo with Jason Pinnock, the Giants third round draft of CB Andru Phillips is a head scratcher. What the Giants need is a complementary CB to Deonte Banks. Phillips may develop into a solid to good slot CB, but it is doubtful that he is going to be that complementary CB. The hope would be that McCloud, Holmes, Hawkins, Flott or Aaron Robinson can become that complementary CB.
Special Teams
The free agency signing of Matthew Adams and the drafting of Darius Muasau adds depth to the LB corps but appears to be an effort to upgrade special teams. The new rules for kick offs appear to favor the return team and puts a priority on players that do well in the return game. Adams has a great deal of experience on special teams and Muasau is known to excel on special teams. Tracey and Olszewski have the potential to form an excellent combination for kickoff and punt returns. Gano had a bad year kicking after five excellent years. Given that cutting Gano represents a 7.2mm CAP savings, it will be interesting to see who Schoen brings in to compete with Gano. Gillan, who is only 27 years old, had a very solid year punting for the Giants. His net average punt improved from 40.6 to 42.3 while maintaining an average length of 46 yards per punt. This suggests that he is getting more height on his punts. This is Gillan's last year of a two year contract. It might make sense to extend his contract rather than let him hit free agency in 2025. Long snapper Casey Keiter and has been on a series of one year contracts since joining the Giants in 2000. His 2024 contract is fully guaranteed.

The article also explains the difference between effective CAP (what a team has to work with) vs the total number shown at overthecap.com or spotrac.com. The only mistake in the article is that the practice squad does not count towards the CAP. Only the 53 man roster counts towards the CAP during the season and only 51 players count towards the CAP prior to the regular season.

His presence should complement Lawrence and Thibodeaux in a very positive manner. Overall Schoen has addressed the OL with multiple signings. On paper the Giants have a talent level along the OL that should allow the coaching staff to put together a respectful OL. In addition to enhancing the DL with the addition of Brian Burns, Schoen has begun to address roster depth by re-signing a number of his own young free agents as well as a number of roster depth type free agents from other teams. Three other key signings include QB Drew Lock, KR Gunner Olszewski and RB Devin Singletary. Drew Lock becomes a veteran back up to Daniel Jones. Olszewski is a highly regarded KR. Singletary becomes a key addition to a running back by committee approach to the running game.
