Admittedly, the Giants were a train wreck on Sunday including the QB.
There are real concerns here, not only at the QB position, but the coaching of Daboll, the decision making of Schoen, the performance of the defensive pass rush, the performance of the secondary, the performance of the OL, and the penalties (which speaks to the coaching).
In many ways, dumping Jones at the end of the season might be the easiest decision for the Giants. The harder decisions could be: do the Giants go forward with Daboll or find another coach? Do the Giants go forward with Schoen or find another GM? I'm so unimpressed with D.Banks and Thibs, two of Schoen's top picks, and of course Neal already lost his starting job. With Thibs and Neal, it is possible that Schoen blew two top 10 picks. But even if that is the case, if the 2024 draft class performs well, maybe Schoen is getting better at his job.
BUT, it is too early to make this call. Jones deserves more time, at least 5 games I would think. Bottom line: Jones played at a high level in 2022, finishing the season with an excellent QBR and the lowest INT rate in the league. I don't know what happened to that QB; the QB who played against the Vikings on Sunday was worse than the QB who helped the Giants get to the playoffs in 2022. Jones was playing for a contract in 2022 and so did something change after he got paid? Perhaps the injuries and the beatings took a toll on him and he checked out? Bottom line: we need a larger sample size before making big changes at QB and at other positions. We also need more time to evaluate the head coach and GM. It is never prudent to overreact to a single regular season game. Let's see where things stand with a larger sample size.
