I've been reading the posts on this board for years, don't know if it is because I need to feel better about my own frustration or to wallow in my own pity ... after the embarrassment against the Vikings I have been running over in my head how pathetic and sad this team has become and my conclusion (and I am open to any and all counter arguments) is that this team is unwilling or unable to accept how bad they are and how much this team needs to be torn down ... the famous (at this point infamous) comment from John Mara, "we just want to play meaningful games in December" means less than nothing with how inept this team is
They didn't want to see Eli Manning deteriorating, thought they could ignore holes and then spend like drunken sailors every few years for no sustained results, their scouts seem to be a step behind ... compound that with bad front office decisions and it's no wonder this team is floundering
Since the past can't be changed, let's look at the present. I was very excited when Schoen was hired, not so much with Daboll but optimistic nonetheless. Now, three years in I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if both were fired before the season ends or just after.
I said it when they got hired and repeated it last year, they should have traded both Saquon and DJ as soon as they got here. Not that they were going to get premium draft capital back but they could have controlled where they went and put their stamp on this team ... instead they got a useless playoff year that had two players on contract pushes. Both outperformed their worth and look where things are. At the beginning of this paragraph I stated how I wasn't overly excited about the Daboll hire, I thought it was too much of Joe Schoen bringing his buddy along. The last year plus has proven to me that Daboll is a very good OC but a mediocre to poor head coach. Too many times this team has seemed unprepared, is sloppy, is uninspired ... and that is all a reflection of the head coach.
Schoen doesn't get a pass from me either. His drafts have been mediocre at best. I didn't like the Thibs pick at all, he was NEVER a dominant player in college, Banks was drafted on potential, I thought Nabers was drafted to save DJ and that is a disaster waiting to happen. I give him a pass on Neal, if you look back at the press before that draft he was considered a can't miss, 10 year starter ... whatever happened I'm not sure we'll ever figure out.
I'm not in a position to make changes but if I was, this is what I'd do: I'd fire Daboll, let Kafka run the team for the rest of the year, let it be an extended audition ... I would tell Schoen "you have until the end of the season to impress me" by that I mean get rid of how many players you need to to bring in as much draft capital as possible (to that end I'd make Thibs, Dex, Burns, and probably Thomas all available ... this team is BAD and they probably won't be around if this team ever hopes to be good ... also, I absolutely hated the attitudes of Thibs, Dex, & Burns after the loss to the Vikes) Should add, if Schoen was let go I would elevate Brown to the GM position with the same thought of Kafka, your auditioning until the end of the year ... impress me.
I know this means a bad year and next but I really think The Giants need to tear down completely and rebuild from the ground up.
