Let’s talk offseason and the offense

My fears, preaching, beating the topic like a drum continue to be true. Chances are the Giants move on from Jones. Right after Nabers was picked I said

“I love the player hate the pick!!”

I would of taken Penuix or Nix, even McCarthy and called it a night

Now we are officially in Quarterback hell!! Once again the Giants will be picking Top 5 with zero QBs in the draft worth that pick. If they pass there probably won’t be a guy there round 2. It’s still early. A few QBs may climb the boards.

There is Cousins. But he may seem to be a 2nd maybe even a 1
Carr. Oh hell no!!!
Darnold seems to be going backwards the last 3 weeks and is clearly not a top tier QB

In other words. There are no quarterbacks in theory to bring this team back to where it belongs.

So what do the Giants do? Cut Jones. Save 19 million. Use that money to bring in another veteran Olineman and a stud WR opposite of Nabers?

Trade a 2 to get maybe a Cousins. Cut Jones and get more blockers in front of Cousins. Bring back Slayton and see what happens?

Continue to roll with Jones and bring in even more help. Ha ha. JK!!

As of now the Giants have 45 million in cap room. By cutting Jones they will have 64 million. If the cap goes up. They could have just under 80 million in cap room

Let’s say Cousins is the direction they go. If so. Do Not draft a QB.

Trade 2nd round pick. Get Cousins in here if Atlanta wants to go with Peniux. DeVito is your QB2. Draft a QB day 3. Try to get a Tee Higgins in here or a Godwin. A guy like Godwin coming off injury is a very interesting prospect. He maybe cheaper then he is worth . How about Zach Martin? He isn’t the guard he was but I bet he is better than anyone we have had in decades inside. Dallas can’t afford him .

How would the offense look with Cousins, Nabers, Godfrey, Tracey, Thomas, Elmenuear, Runyon, Martin? With that top pick you can add a corner like Hunter!!! Or a stud DT next to Lawrence

New coaches and new gm first.

Get a new qb with arm talent and poise and mobility.

I pounded table for Josh Allen years ago. Man oh man. Put that guy on any team . Anyways

I Think Cam Ward will make a good NFL QB. He's both mobile and poised in the pocket. He throws nice quick, accurate, low trajectory passes. He can also run and extend plays with his legs.

He's definitely the best passer in the draft IMO.

I'm curious to see what scouts say about his throwing mechanics. He throws with different arm angles, sometimes it looks like he's throwing side arm. I think he's manipulating his arm angles to throw around traffic. An elite trait if that's what he's doing. We'll see what scouts say closer to the draft. I think he's got an NFL arm and the awareness and mobility to make plays with it.

I'd be really happy if the Giants can draft him.

Which Cousins? Kirk is playing under a 4-year deal worth 180 million. You're trading for a 2nd round pick. Dream on pal. Jones will be back here because they didn't get a generation talent in the draft um yea ok.. Even though they were picking with Herbert on the board; Will Levis on the board; and Bo Nix on the board. The Maras never liked QB changes. They are conservative in their approach. It took Ernie to draft an Eli Manning before they saw the light on drafting a QB high in the draft in a draft heavy class. They like Jones , and like many posters and even personal friends--they still do!!!!! ("That interception was not bad pass by Jones". "Jones is not the only problem on this team" blah blah. Never mind that he is the main reason this offense is stuck in neutral and this team I think could be decent with a better QB. At least it will have the biggest problem solved. He is a great athlete / just not a QB/ does not have the mental part of the game.

I said it in this thread, but I would sign QB Justin Fields in Free Agency. A lot of Steelers fans were upset they benched Fields for Wilson once Wilson returned from injury. I'm not saying signing Fields would prevent them from taking a QB, but you don't have to "force a pick at QB" if a guy you like is not available or you don't have any QBs graded as high as you're picking. Fields running ability and strong arm and has deep ball accuracy, all seem to fit what Daboll wants to do offensively.

Now, I'm not saying Justin Fields is going to be the future or is the right move, but I think he would make a lot of sense to take a chance on once they move on from Jones and he has won games in the NFL and is young still at just 25 years old (will be 26 next year).

Ward was considering entering the 2024 draft.  He decided against it when he was given a second or third round draft grade.  If Ward is so great, why was he given a second or third round draft grade less than a year ago?  And now some team is going to take him in the top 5?  I'm skeptical.....

A lot changes in 1 year with college QBs.  Ward was playing for Washington State last year.  

Jayden Daniels was eligible in 2022.  He played another year and went from 17TDs to 40TDs.  Same with Bo Nix.  Played another year and went from 29TDs to 45.  Neither would have been first rounders in 2022.

Some players develop differently.  Ward only got 1 scholarship offer and played his first season at some tiny FCS school.  I really only care about how he's playing now and what I see in him.  

Other players regress.  Drake Maye and Caleb Williams both regressed in college last year.  Jalen Milroe is regressing a little this year.  I'd rather take the guy with upward momentum.

Ward is big and strong and athletic. Strong arm. Hard to know what these teams are going to think about him when they put him on the blackboard and try to gauge his football acumen.
