Until I heard some of Solder's comments on Bleacher Report there was nothing more maddening to me than listening to Eli and coaches repeating the same assessments of another poor performance, have to do better, need to look at tape, need to work harder etc.
After reading all the negativity and doom and gloom here it dawned on me why we hear those responses from the players and coaches, they are the professionals, this is their livelihood and more than likely at some point in their careers they've been through this before and overcome the adversity. They get that this is a 16 game season. Fans go crazy if a team gets hot or if a team starts slow. Their approach is week to week where we have fans wondering about the draft or what the team will look like years down the road. They understand how fragile their careers are where 1 injury or 1 FA signing could completely change a season. The Eagles certainly came back to earth and who knows what Wentz will be like when he returns. Take Zeke away from Dallas and do you honestly think Dak's arm and legs will carry them ? The media was all over AP's performance last week and he's back and will help save the Skins. What happened yesterday ? Doom and gloom aside we're a game out of 1st place.
We as fans love to think we know it all. We can look back at past performances and predict what's going to happen. We can scour the net to find stats that back-up our opinions regardless of what they are. We can site examples about the longevity or cost of drafting a RB in the 1st round, we can look out to next year and following years and play GM and look at the impact to salary caps etc, we emotionally look at Sam Darnold's 2 game career and already say he's going to be at least a solid pro if not a God send to the Jets, just like everyone was crowning Michael Vick and RG3 as future Hall of Famers. But when it comes down to it we don't have all the info that the coaches and GMs have. We don't see these guys on a day to day basis and are not privy to the info that they have. Did anyone here predict Jack Rabbit redoing his contract to free up some money ?
Not that Collingsworth is infallible or is the hands down the most respected pro football authority and understanding that he does have a job and needs to keep the game as interesting as possible but he did play pro football. He repeatedly mentioned the Giant's OL was being out schemed not physically out played. That to me is a coaching issue and an issue that could be corrected the longer they play together.
These people are the professionals. This is their life, their career and their livelihood. They have all made it to the NFL though their work and talent. Maybe that talent doesn't translate to being a success in the NFL but they put in the work to get here. Probably with few exceptions they have overcome great odds to make the NFL. None of them is going to turn around and say, yup I suck, I shouldn't be here and walk away, no matter how much we hope they would. They are going to continue to put in the time and work to get better. Is that a guarantee that it happens. But for all the Eli doubters and Eli haters, do you really expect him to say I'm not good enough anymore and walk away ? After a 3-13 season did you really expect the Giants to rerun the Warner/Manning scenario where Eli held the fort down for his replacement especially when none of the QB's that came out last year had the same vibe about them as Peyton or Luck when they came out ?
I'm just as frustrated as everyone else on the board. I actually thought that with the Giants run D we would shut Zeke down, force Zak to beat us with his arm and we'd come out with the first win of the year.
I honestly feel that this is more on the coaches now than the players.
The defense controlled Zeke but need to address the QB option, depending on the opponent. Next week for sure, probably not when they face Drew Brees. The defense has only given up 33 points, although we have to see what Apple's injury is like, so that's a plus. It doesn't appear that we'll be blown out any games, although Brees will be a test. If the offense can figure out a way to be average we should be in every game. Regardless of what the Eli detractors and haters say, close game in the4th quarter I'll take my chances with him.
No one is happy with an 0-2 start, fans are frustrated, especially ones who have the opinion that we made the wrong moves in keeping Eli and drafting Barkley. But it is a 16 game season. We did start out 0-3 one year and that one year things worked out pretty good for us. I don't see anyone running away with the division. Rodgers may be hurt, will Carolina, Atlanta and New Orleans knock themselves out of a wild card discussion ? Not that I'm looking to have our future in the hands of maybe someone getting hurt but there is still plenty of time to right the ship. Will it happen I don't know. Will this ease the concerns of those who believe we made all the wrong choices ? No. People will want to hold onto their beliefs and believe they know best and have all the answers.
Hopefully things do get turned around because if not as ugly as things are here already it'll either get worse or the board will be deserted.
