The first one is the best one-- that's always the case. Last week we painstakingly outlined a series of steps that McAdoo could take to ensure us our first win. And he really did do a lot of them! I hadn't realized until this mornings research that Eli Apple did not start! He was benched. That's a step in the right direction and a big tell on Jerry Reese's fate...
It seems the word has come down to Just Win by any means and if that means Dariun Thompson also sees much reduced time and may be replaced this week by Adams fine... The word is out- no longer does McAdoo have to protect the Reese picks just win a damn game. That came from the owner. What of the golden pick though? Beckham. Here's where it gets interesting-- ODB is the thread that holds Reese's job intact-- without him, it's over. It's a fascinating dance, a modern day dance with a primadona, a dance you do not want to hand off to another dance partner. This whole season now is about keeping Beckham somehow happy.
On offense we asked for the O line to just do one thing well, pass protect and that's what we got. It wasn't pretty but overall the reformed Flucker included line did better. Check another request off the list. What's left to do? 1) That unlucky glove on Eli's left hand. That glove that was hexed by that Haitian voodoo high priest-- it's time to take it off. Eli take Off the Glove!!! 2) That's for the mojo and in a way the next move is as well... Coach give the play calling duties up for a while. Lets see what happens. Give in to your ego, we will not think any less of you I can assure you that you are already on the very bottom rung.
The first step to climbing back up that ladder of respect is be man enough to hand off the play calling-- free your mind.
When this season started I feared that McAdoo would quickly go away from the concept of a fullback and somehow our guy was cut.-->McAdoo cuts Giants' invisible fullback,New York Post-Sep 29, 2017
Giants re-sign FB Shane Smith to practice squad, source says
-NJ.com-Sep 29, 2017
Do We Have This Guy Or Not? This week we are adding a new request, we are confident that if McAdoo keeps ticking off these requests we shall win. Lets get Shane Smith back in the game for once! From the limited action we have seen from Gallman he seems to like to read his blocks, thus a fullback would jive nicely there-- I formation with a lot of play fakes lets give it a shot. We are not exactly dancing down the field the other way. We seem to be experimenting with some big bodies at the FB position I wish McAdoo could just commit one whole game to a two back set up.
On Defense.- Who Is Cap Capi & can he help. The Giants obviously did not do a good job in free agency they could of easily gotten a quality offensive lineman instead we have Brandon Marshall. But some of the dregs, the pickups from other teams, they've been good. I like the guy from The Steelers Cockrill. He's not half bad and nor is a guy we got from the Cards with the name Cap Capi. As in Cap Capi by the copying machine. Cap has got to play! It's all hands on deck and a few off the deck as the Giants now having lost their " must win " game and the one after that face the hard charging in the wrong direction Chargers.
Here's the good news or sad news. We handled Philly good enough and with any effort from JPP and Co should of won that game. The whole year would of turned out different-- still we know deep in our hearts that we are as good as the team that is running away with the division. Sure they have their younger QB of the future but we are right there, just some bad coaching moves away-- stuff that can be righted. So here comes the run.
But we have deeper problems. The numbers don't lie draft picks come and go here few stick. Fifteen of the Giants’ 22 starters this season are Reese draft picks. But at the same time- Only two of Reese’s 29 draft picks from 2010 through 2013 are still on the team. Where did everyone go? Only Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Pugh remain. That's not a lot to show for that time period fine, he had a bad streak but what about 2013 on? It's debatable. Rather than pick apart every mistake I'd rather focus on the lack of vision.
It seems we are never able to draft a suitable project to develop. Every draft pick must be perfect plug and play and of course they are not. Every pick needs to fill a Jerry Reese made hole in the roster and there is no room for ' creating ' a great player.
Lets look back at last year's draft 2nd round.
You may remember I had Tomlinson picked from Day 1. He was the perfect fit for Big Hank's hole. Well that doesn't sound right but Hankns leaving obviously left us with a big hole to fill. People who don't know football question Hankins but he's a two body guy he takes up two bodies even when he doesn't approach the play and that frees up his neighbor... Snacks Harrison. So whatever we lost with Hankins is magnified by the effect is also has on snacks... Could of told you that! Anyway we had the guy pegged all the way through 60 some odd pages but then right at the end of the process I did a real time draft with a bunch of guys and when push came to shove and 2nd round pick came I over drafted slightly a dude out of Vandy-- a development guy named Tanoh Kpassagnon. Defensive end. He hasn't played much this season. So you could look at that and say hey Jerry Reese got ya he found his DT and your guy is not playing... or did he? Now the Chiefs took Tanoh and from what I hear are developing him as an edge LB! So Next Year as stagnation abounds with us and Tomlinson is peaked and average... the Chiefs are going to unveil a monster. A really surprising guy I'm pretty sure. At least they are going to have that conveyor belt of talent running and they are going to be able to remain good for a number of years. That's how we got JPP!!! That mentality... we have lost that.
And that's the key loss, whether it's Marc Ross or Jerry Reese or the combination we have lost the ability to future imagine a player, to develop a player that is unique.<-- This is the key.
Ok back to now. Ross Cockrell should play more. Andrew Adams should play more. Cap Capi should play more
We should bring Shane Smith up from the practice squad or commit some big body to playing fullback on a regular basis. We need to take Eli's glove off and allow offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan a chance to call the plays. It seems like a jig saw puzzle-- putting a win together-- I know but the Giants have brought us to this point. I think Jerry Reese could still play an important roll for the Giants evaluating current NFL players for pick up. I think he does this pretty well. Why he didn't pick up one of the three or four capable offensive lineman that were available and instead went with Brandon Marshall that is the BIG question vexing him and us as giant fans. Jerry fell too hard for Flowers for sure or hoped against hope that Flowers would change-- it was a huge tactical mistake. And he placed a big wager on Marshall.
As redemption for Reese, Brandon Marshall could still wake up. And for some reason I feel it will be this next game against the Chargers, an unusually good game for Marshall... a two TD game that might take a little pressure off Reese but as always with the Giants it's tricky; what will Mr ODB think about that...
