I understand how angry you are. But I see it differently.
We've been blessed with a decade of fine football. There weren't just the no. of rings during that time, but those two superbowls were the finest ever played and it was a priviledge to get to see them.
We should have been in the playoffs more. I - and maybe this is just my Pollyanna side - saw some well constructed teams that fell victim to unusual runs of injuries.
I used to write to Wellington, and always got a response and, in my one note, John seems to be holding onto the tradition. My sense of it that no organization cared more for the fanbase or was more involved with winning - Unless it was Jerry from Jerry world, who would cheat at ever turn and hire every vicious thug if it would earn him a W.
We are watching, in my opinion, a well constructed team. If there's been a mistake it's probably been in the Mac hire. But you have to be able to knock that in real time and given the parameters that mgmt. had to work with, I don't see how any can.. Mac had the resume. He was well regarded by everyone who had worked with him. Moreover, he was here, familiar with the organization and the NY marketplace.
Can you say that he was a bad hire? Well perhaps, but only with the benefit of hindsight.
We were also 11-5 last year. I'm the whistler blower re: Mac, been preaching my sermon for awhile, but that's not totally fair either. And what would you so now, fire a man who in his only season went to the playoffs and had one of the best records in football?
Years like this happen. Great coordinator's probably fail as HC at an alarming rate. There's external circumstance and internal intangibles. This just has to be endured and allowed to play out.
And unchecked rage would probably be more appropriate if you rooted for: The Bills, Jets, Miami, Phila. Wash, Jacksonville, Browns, Bengals, Lions, 49'ers, You know those 28 teams or so who would give their first born to have had the decade we have had.
BTW, I don't think "empty seats is a bad idea or inappropriate. Only I'd make it in response to the leagues decision to act as a social agency promoting a narrow social agenda.
