Called by many," the most Pro ready of all the quarterbacks" last year he's traded 4 a late second-rounder only a short time later . The only rap was fragility and that hasn't been the issue and that has been the surprise. No line, two defensive coordinators his collapse seems explainable to this untrained eye. But the experts disagree . Victim or bust?
Now he goes to Miami to circumstances that are startingly similar. A bad line, and an almost certain top pick in next year's draft that is rich in quarterbacks.
He is likely to be dropped again, and at this point, he doesn't wed ven look like a starter as Fitzgerald, the quintessential journeyman, is the favorite.
Nature vs nurture, one can't help but wonder what the determining force is here. I am a great believer in environment when it comes to football players. The Green Bay Packers were a bunch of losers, they wound up with severalrings and several are in the hall. The difference was environment and environment was called Lombardi.
I believe thqt Joe Montana ( and this is perhaps unwise because I don't want to start a tangential argument) would have been a good quarterback playing anyplace else. The system and the coach made him an immortal. And for confirmation, I'd point out that Steve Young was a bust before playing for the gold helmeted Yukoners. In contrast, Vinny Testaverde ( and I could include maybe 20 others starting with David Carr) was held back by his coaching and constant changes in offensive coordinators. I think Vinny potentially could have been in a class with Aaron Rodgers- he had it all.
So what are we looking at here, nature or nurture? Pathos and Sisphus or The Pheonix and a heroic rise above circumstances? Or maybe a third alternative, maybe he's just not good.
