There's a lot of decisions to be finalized tomorrow for guys on "The Bubble":
My opinion is that they should move away from some experienced players who's potential we've seen in exchange for Rookies with unknown potential. Basically choosing the players with the higher ceiling. There's certainly new roster bubble players that I think have potential higher than some returning players that I believe have maxed out.....
OUT: LB Nate Stupar - This guy just isn't a linebacker in the NFL. He's held on to a spot here based on his special teams. I'd cringe if he ever played an important down at LB.
IN: Josiah Taueffa - This kid is relentless, I think he has potential to be a roster guy and even a good starter as his ceiling. He's a good pass rusher and plays fast between the whistles and the sidelines. with a little time he could easily replace Stupar's ST contributions while having starting ILB potential.
OUT: TE Scott Simonsen - He's always been just Mehh… He's a pretty good blocker but crappy hands. Finding blocking TE's is easy. Finding TE's that can block and be dynamic receivers is difficult.
IN: Garret Dickerson or CJ Conrad - These guys can both fill Simonsen's roll as a blocker but more importantly, they've shown steady hands in receiving as well.
OUT: Chad Wheler - I think we're all familiar with Chad Wheeler's performance. I think we can see his ceiling as we avoid banging our shins.
IN: Nick Gates, Chad Slade and/or Brian Mehalik - I really like Nick Gates. He was a 3 year starter at LT at Nebraska. Giants have him as Guard but when they were slim at Tackle in preseason Gates played great at OT. Wheeler has suffered through some injuries in camp. I'm ready to move on but this group is still weak.
OUT: Russell Sheppard - This one is tough. There's nothing wrong with Russell Sheppard. He's a decent receiver and a good ST'er. But how often does your #5 WR actually contribute to the offense??
IN: Alonzo Russell and Darius Slayton - Russell has shown the hustle, he can replace Sheppard's ST play. He's also $1Mil cheaper and he's the only receiver we have over 6'1". He's shown his red zone presence which we lack. Slayton has been injured but has untapped potential with speed. Again I think you go with the higher ceiling.
OUT: Alex Tanney - Tanney is not an NFL QB, not Even a backup. He just holds a good tablet. He should never step on a field during an NFL regular season game so why keep him? The whole "he can run the scout squad and teach Jones" narrative is crap. Not worth a roster spot.....
IN: Kyle Lauletta - For me, It all comes down to Jones' backup moving forward. I think he's shown enough to prove he can be Jones' backup for the near future.
OUT: Kareem Martin - This guy is just a big fat $6,000,000 turd in my opinion. Horrible signign. He's signed through 2020. Dead Cap: $4Mil in 2019. He will be cut somewhere between now and really soon.
IN: I dunno. You cut him now and have +$2mil to scour the waiver wire. Ive never liked this guy, just go with Avery Moss or go back in a time machine and keep Kerry Wynn,,,,,
