Listening to Boston sports radio today(WEEI), I thought I'd get an outside the NY media bubble take on the Giants. Here's what I heard...
They have already put Thursday's game in the win column.
They think the Giants are bad. Not Miami or Washington bad, but not close to a challenge. They expect a blowout.
No mention of any Super Bowl payback or revenge.
Very complimentary of Eli Manning and his career. (Surprisingly little hate from callers or hosts)
Too early to tell on Daniel Jones but so far so good.
The Patriots are going to trade for a WR before the deadline(Emmanuel Sanders or Stefan Diggs)
It won't matter if Saquon Barkley plays. The Pats defense is that good. It is carrying the team in the early part of the season. It could be one of Belicheck's best defenses.
The Pats oline is a mess. Callers ripped Belicheck for not addressing the oline enough(sound familiar?). Callers ripping the Pats drafts that have not produced much in the way of players the last few seasons(of course, they are defending champs...)
Marshall Newhouse is the Patriots starting LT. Yes, that is correct. Read it again.
Brady is getting hit at an unheard of rate. The offense is sputtering due to injuries and the Gronk retirement.
Matt Lacosse is getting snaps at TE. Yes, that Matt Lacosse that could never stick to our roster, is trying to be the replacement for Rob Gronkowski.
Callers and hosts agree the offense is too predictable. If RB Sony Michel is in, it's a run play. If RB James White is in, it's a pass. Very critical of OC Josh McDaniels.
All in all, they don't expect much competition from the Giants on Thursday(Can we blame them?). They're more worried about the Pats own issues since they believe there is no real threat in the AFC to prevent another Super Bowl visit.
