That loss galvanized a new team that had also stumbled out of the gate and convinced them they could play with the best. What happened next was dramatic, they went through the playoffs, had a victorious return run in with arguably the greatest team of all time, and then tore the league up next year right to the point where our wide receiver shot himself.
I'm not saying this is going to be Yogi's deja vu all over again. But I think it might be.
From Belcher's maligned and anonymous eel pot, individual talented players are starting to emerge.
The front three is starting to look very good and maybe even dominant - a group that can free up the linebackers and disrupt the passing game at the same time. Golden and Lorenzo Carter are daily growing. Peppers is settling in and looks like a nice player. The corners have been uneven and aling with the FS remain a weakness, but I see hope; hope and the 12th man named saquon who plays on the other side but can positively impact Belcher's raggumyffins.
And I think people are missing what's going to happen tomorrow on the other side. Play action returns, glacial stumbling backs for the brilliance of the heart and soul of the team. Breakaway threats from all quarters such as I've never seen in giant blue [Shofner, Rote ,Gifford; Plax, Toomer???]. Darius Slayton stretching the field, the heretofore underachieving Golden Tate showcasing his skill at yards-after-catch. a quarterback where the Run option has to be respected. Saquon Barkley hitting home runs from plays off guard, from intermediate routes, maybe from a wide receivers routes, or from screen passes etc. - the cone of wind that fills every sail
From that Multiplicity of Heroes in capes how can the villians defend Evan Ephraim on top of that?
I think it might come together tomorrow and I think at the end of the day a division that's more about balsa than oak might have a new and very potent contender.
