Disclaimer...we know so little that it's a form of grandiosity to make predictions - or, for the matter and in most instances, criticisms - but, having said that, I see personnel that fit a 4-3 taking shape.
Tomlinson from nose to tackle, puts him probably back where he belongs. He lines up next to Williams inside and you have two of the biggest and strongest horses around. Interesting to note that the underachieving Williams, even so has gone to the Pro Bowl. So his downside is exceptionally good it's upside might move him to Elite
That moves Lawrence 2 defensive end, where, provided he has the Quick twitch and quicker feet, he could be a disruptive game-changing Force. Always remembering, at the modern offensive tackle is increasingly designed to Square Off against quick outside rushers. We've seen Lawrence restrained bye double teams, usually by guards and centers, open space and a nasty disposition might change the whole tone and tint of an up to now weak defense
And now, even if I'm only a little right, maybe we see something magical as the addition of Williams alchemizes base metal to gold: Ryan Connerlly & Mayo for MLB, Lorenzo Carter, Markus golden and Ximines on the outside with beaucanon and Jos. Tauefeta as your potential. The big beneficiary will be Lorenzo Carter, who I think is misplaced in a 3/4. The man has safety speed and if he doesn't have the quick-twitch and bend to be a great pass-rusher that straight-line speed can really help him in a 4-3.
If I'm reading this right, and I'm not at all sure I am, the simple addition of Williams has changed my front seven and made them very good.
There's Talent on the defensive secondary gaining experience this year. I think the surprise might be that Janoris Jenkins comes back comes back. I thought I saw something very special in Ballantyne and I'm hoping that will be born out next year. So I've got a back 5 2 fashion out of peppers, Ballentine, Jenkins, Beal, Baker and love. That's some pretty good wool to build your blanket out of.
My very optimistic judgement is that the addition of Williams moves this defense too good or very good without taking anything from next year's draft. The corollary to that is all our resources can go into finding our future offensive tackles. Perhaps idealistic, but it explains the acquisition of Williams and it potentially upgrades the entire roster.
