Thinking about players like Davis Webb, which other players could see the most additional snaps under the new coaching staff in the final games of this season?
Wayne Gallman comes to mind. Not sure if anyone caught this, but last week he had more carries than Orleans Darkwa (though I don’t know if that had to do with the fact that Gallman was sick all last week). Otherwise, I think most of the younger players have gotten action (save for Webb) because of the injuries. I’d like to see Avery Moss and Jerell Adams get a few more snaps than they’ve been getting, but we’ll see if that happens.
Dave Gettleman is apparently the favorite to get the GM job. Would they bring someone on board to groom as his replacement, since he is 66 years old, or is there someone already in house like Kevin Abrams would could eventually replace Gettleman in 4-5 years or so if he were to get the job?
I’m thinking if Gettleman gets the job, they’ll keep Abrams on and continue to groom him. Abrams is a whiz at managing the salary cap and I know he’s thought very highly of by ownership. I suspect they would like to see him retained regardless of who the new GM is.
What do you think the odds are that Spags will be kept as HC?
I don’t think he will. I love the guy and he’s been an absolute breath of fresh air after dealing with McAdoo, but I would be shocked if Spagnuolo is the next guy. It’s obviously going to depend on who the GM is, but if I’m them, I get someone who’s a little older (McAdoo was more like a brother to some of those guys, I thought, than an authoritarian figure like say a Tom Coughlin would be), someone who has been in multiple systems and who can thus adjust when things don’t go per plan, and someone who has experience developing or overseeing the development of a franchise quarterback.
Have you received any info as to how the coaches feel Webb is progressing?
The feedback every time a question is asked is positive—glowing I dare say. But I personally would like to see for myself how he’s developing as I can’t imagine the coaches would say anything bad. I will say this. I’ve been in the group media sessions with Webb and have chatted with him here and there. He’s a very confident young man who isn’t cocky and I can already see Eli Manning’s influence on him. So I think his arrow is heading the right direction.
