Ok. We all read and listen to how a season is broken down into 4 sections. 4 games at a time How we as fans need to look at it is this.
Is the team getting better week by week
Is the offensive like getting better as a unit
Is the defense improving week by week
Are the players engaged and playing 4 quarters
Let’s start with defense
Up front they look strong in most of these games early but fall apart late in games. That’s do to being on the field way to long. They look stout vs the run early and they do generate some pressure as a unit. This defense needs help at the second level at the linebacker position accross this defense. Carter again is inconsistent and Golden is an non factor. Xman showed promise vs the Steelers and I haven’t really seen anything sense. They really only have Martinez. The secondary really is struggling especially at the saftey position and 2 Corner. I would like to see Logan Ryan play corner opposite of Bradberry but with Peppers our that really leaves a bad lost group even thinner. McKinney better heal fast. This defense needs him. As far as Graham I’m impressed. Really am. This defense has kept them in every game this year in the first half. But being on the field 45 minutes a game or longer they just can’t hold up for 4 quarters this way. The defense is playing pretty good with little to no talent other then Bradberry, Lawrence and Martinez
QB play is something I will put into its own topic. I understand that this is a new offense with Garrett and Barkley is out. Jones does have fight in him but in a fan’s perspective he just isn’t playing good football at all. He did show some good decisions vs the Steelers. Then he has been in a free fall in a hurry to the bottom. I always believe a good QB can adapt in real time in every game. Once teams get tape on a QB. They take away what QBs do well. That QB is forced to beat you with what they struggle with. That is what’s happening to Jones right in front of our eyes. And that’s why scouts say a franchise QB has to have good feet, Mobile, strong arm, accurate, and smart. All the above because they will need there entire tool belt to be successful for a complete season into the lost season. Jones doesn’t have that arm to launch a 50 yard zinger off platform. Any QB at this level can do it when they can strip into a throw in a clean pocket. Jones with his skill set needs a strong run game and a lot of play action, boot legs and motion to get him into a situation for success. That makes him a QB that is system sensitive and needs the right set up for success. Right now he looks every part of a back up QB.
Offense
Where do we begin. Let’s start at Offensive line. There is no rythem with this group. I have read some books and most of them all say the same thing. A good line builds its foundation and rythem off of the run. Offensive lineman are physically built to move forward not backwards. If they are winning in the trenches it’s because they are getting movement forward in the run game. What that does is allows room for play action. It also gives your offense a chance giving you less negative plays or plays for no gain. This line is getting no movement. Actually during runs they are getting moved backwards. If you watch the replay. Watch the interior of this group. Especially on the left side. Gates and Hernandez get whooped every game. Hernandez looks horrible in 4 games. Something has to give I would like to see Pulley at Center and Lemieux at LG just to see if that sparks this unit. Flemmimg looks every part of a back up tackle to me. Maybe Gates should get a look at Tackle. Peart I’m in no rush to see him. Let him develop. At receiver this is a joke!!! It really is. Engram drops 50% of his passes. Tate looks every bit of 30. Shepherd can’t stay healthy. This is looking like our worse position group on this entire team. I do like our backs. But with this line no back in the history of the NFL has a chance
Overall Judge has very little to work with. Gettleman tore this team down and set up this offense for Shurmer. And Garrett’s system has no chance with this group. Especially up front and at The QB position
QB. D
RB no grade. Not fare
WR. F
TE. C. Yes. Smith boosts this up
Tackle. C
Guards. F
Center D

Linebackers B
Edge. D

Graham does appear to be a good hire. Garrett is struggling with Jones and his line with no receivers
