It is good to see more and more Giants fans have finally owned up to Gettleman's mistakes in the 2018 draft. When you have as many holes as the Giants had, it didn't make sense to blow the second pick of the draft on a RB. The Barkley pick was the just the beginning, the first sign that Gettleman was lousy at his job and would take this organization nowhere but down.
What about John Dorsey for the Giants next GM? Does anyone strongly object? Ironically, the one trade I liked from Gettleman was the Beckham trade, which the Giants turned into D.Lawrence. I think Dorsey made a mistake in trading a first round pick for Beckham, but I understand what Dorsey was doing: he had a young QB and wanted to add a weapon to the offense.
Dorsey's 2018 draft was really impressive. The Browns success this year is partly based on Dorsey's decision-making. In the 2019 draft, Dorsey didn't have a first round pick--I'm not sure if he found quality guys in the later rounds of that draft. Nevertheless, Dorsey would be a huge upgrade over Gettleman, who is absolutely terrible, a step down from Jerry Reese. To think that Gettleman's starting Center and ILB last season can't even get NFL jobs one year later speaks to Gettleman's problems as a talent evaluator.
Dorsey wasn't really fired from the Browns. Instead, the Browns were reorganizing the front office and Dorsey didn't like the changes, and decided to part ways with the Browns.
I think Dorsey would be a pretty good choice, and he is a strong evaluator of QBs. Thus, he can take a nice long look at D.Jones and decide if D.Jones is the right guy going forward or if a better option will be available in the draft.
One of the things that is not talked about as much--D.Jones seems like a West Coast QB to me, and he played well in Shurmur's West Coast system last year (minus the fumbles). But Garrett's system is based on Air Coryell? So the Giants took a West Coast QB and tried to turn him into an Air Coryell QB? What kind of organization would do that? Answer: an organization led by an incompetent general manger in Dave Gettleman. Is John Dorsey the right guy to clean up this "giant" mess?
