I thought that this franchise was through for a decade - such was the disaster that I thought Chip Kelly had left. The Loss of what seemed to be their best players , Shady, Jackson etc. and a general mess with no established Quarterback seemed insurmountable, at least in the short term. But it didn't seem to me that they lost a step and were competitive almost immediately. That's the first miracle that this staff produced.
This year they lose the leading candidate for MVP and they're inspirational leader and, in spite of that, they're going into the NFC championship game - with, it has to be noted, a knock around who was almost out of football last year and they picked up for next to nothing. More importantly, I think that was a very hot, very motivated experienced and talented team they beat today. I thought Atlanta was going to go the SB again, win it and create their own legend.
We have seen superb intuitive coaching that let Foles do what he does best and take advantage of the Run / Pass Option. Sadly, just the opposite of what we've gone through with Mac trying to use thoroughbreds to pull carts and Clysdales for rounding up calves. Think of this, If the Vikes come in next week we'll be looking at two reject qb's in the Championship game. That's almost unaccountable and if we were take it as a trend could blow apart a lot of sacred dogma about the value of top five picks.
I like the old teams, the original NFL teams. I think the Eagles are a proud franchise and have a great history as well as a great name (how many know for example that they were merged with The Steelers during WWII and the hybrid was called - I swear - The Steagles - speaking of great names). I'd like to see Philly with a Lombardi, and I don't think the Saints or Vikes will be able to come into Phila. and walk out with anything but bruises, brotherly love and a cold. And if I question Foles in a game of the magnitude of the Superbowl, nevertheless, if they get there I'll be rooting for them.
