The narrative from the low IQ Daniel Jones haters is that Daniel Jones is simply not a QB. In this thread I will debunk this myth by using video evidence to show Daniel Jones' elite skills. Watch the video clips for a breakdown.
EDIT: The NFL has restricted the video clips from playing below. I'm going to try to find a way to link to the specific parts below.
Lets start off with his TD to Golden Tate in the 1st quarter . An absolute dime of a pass. He located in a very small window about 30 yards down the field. Does a scrub QB make that throw? Absolutely not. He placed it above the defenders head, a defender who was not spying the ball. Just a perfect decision not only to throw that ball, but to locate it high like he did. Perfect.
Evan Engram runs a post route and Daniel Jones slings the ball with a perfect spiral, and located it to Engram for a first down.
Daniel Jones and Evan Engram give up an interception: I think Jones put a little too much mustard on the pass. He located the ball, Engram couldn't handle the pass. It bounced off his hands and was intercepted. This isn't egregious by either player. Just a fluke sort of situation. I'm fair with my assessment. I'm not a hysterical Giants fan:
Nice velocity on this throw. The ball gets to the WR quickly, giving less time for the defender to gain ground and make a play on the ball. Good strike and accuracy:
Incredible heads up play by Jones. The read option play. He read the linebackers who were giving absolutely no respect for Jones as a runner on this play. They all just assumed there was no way he was going to run it as they over committed on the RB (he did this EXACT same play against North Carolina in college where he ran for close to 200 yards on the ground). Jones shows off his great athleticism with a massive run. It looks like he lost his balance because he turned his head to see if anyone was near him and that started the chain of "unbalance". What a shame because he might have had the longest QB running TD in Giants history. One thing is for sure. Daniel Jones is fast. The defenders weren't really gaining on him.
Some people might think that Daniel Jones threw this ball too low, but trust me, his WRs are going to be happy that he placed the ball here. Oh, and he placed the ball there on purpose. Nothing is worse than a WR running across the middle and getting a ball placed at his chest and not being able to see what is coming in front of him. That's how you get your WR killed on a throw. A defender on the opposite side of the field was coming, throwing the ball low creates less risk for your WR's safety and wellbeing. All you have to do is move the chains. First down.
Very heads up play here. He got pressure, quickly located his RB, dumped it off and they got positive yardage. Took a potentially big loss into a positive gain.
Another absolute dime of a pass here. So damn beautiful. Can these Daniel Jones haters just for a moment look at this elite throw? The defender was holding down Tate's other arm. Defensive pass interference was called. Perfect ball placement. A scrub QB isn't making that throw!
Jones FINALLY has Shepard back. Nice route by Shepard. He got separation on a very quick route. Jones places the ball perfectly to him.... TD! Nice tight spiral. High up towards his head (less risk being intercepted there).
The game is over if Engram catches this pass. Daniel Jones drops the ball beautifully to Engram's location. The ball has a nice spiral to it. It's not wobbly. This pass should be easy to handle. Great arc on the pass too. Daniel Jones is really good at dropping passes like this. Reminds me of both Manning brothers being fantastic at it too. Engram drops the ball. Heart breaking:
So what do we see? Do we see a scrub QB here? Absolutely not. These passes he's making is what you see from an elite QB. He has all the aspects that coaches and GMs drool over in a prospect. Shepard is FINALLY back and boy can you already tell what an improvement he is to the offense once he was plugged in today. Jones had a fantastic game today. He has room for improvement in the awareness department. They have to drill over and over again (defenders curl around you, you move up into the pocket, quickly take a glance behind you if daylight is in front of you to see how much time you have. That dictates whether you have to scramble forward or if you can extend the play to work a ball to a WR). The throws he made today prove he was the right QB to draft. It's a wacky football year with this COVID, a lack of a normal offseason, tons of his offensive weapons have been injured, and this is his first year in this new offensive scheme. The fact of the matter is he has the arm and accuracy to be an elite QB in the NFL.
