I thought this so changing that it should have it own thread.....
Changed my mind and has me darn near delirious over a move that I was lukewarm on and the competency we're starting to see. Really made me feel better about the upcoming draft and free agency.
Copied from The Cowboy Board of all places and all credit to a poster named NoImagination. I asked for permission and thanked the guy. And all I can say is WOW!
There are a lot of inaccuracies regarding Ogletree. First, the Giants did not forfeit 2 picks; they swapped 6th and 7th round picks. Thus, the Giants only traded their compensatory 4th round pick; they still have a pick at the top of the 4th. Second, his salary will have minimal impact against the cap; to that end, his $7M roster bonus can be converted to a signing bonus, which negates his '18 cap number to a paltry $4M. In terms of cap management, the Giants (specifically Abraham) are one of the better teams in the NFL. Finally, I find comments regarding Ogletree's play to be somewhat comical. He's just 26, an All-Rookie and 2nd Team All-Pro member; in fact, he played so well the Rams rewarded him with a big contract. The Rams notorious cheap ownership are dumping thier players who are due large cash payments. This has nothing to do with Ogletree's play; after all, Wade Phillips was in place with the Rams offered Ogletree his big contract last year. Finally, Ogletree is a solid tackler; HOWEVER, he does have MAJOR problems shedding block; remember, he's a S/LB hybrid. In the Giants systems that weakness can be masked via a solid run-stuffing front 4; to that point, Snacks and company should be able to keep linemen off Giant linebackers. Cowboy fans should be familiar with the Giants run stopping abilities, which have nothing to do with their linebackers and everything to do with the big men up front. Cowboys fans should also be familiar with the Giants desperate need to find a backer who can cover TEs and RBs...that's exactly what Ogletree gives them, at a modest price. This was a very good move for the Giants; yet, they still have a lot of work to do....
