I’m so back and fourth with this 2 pick. Majority of the time I’m convincing myself to stay at 2 and take a QB. Every now and then I go back to Barkley or a trade I’m sure this will continue until Thursday evening April 26th. So I spent some time on you tube and some of the giants offensive plays not just this year but last year.
Yes Eli protection was suspect. But he did have a clean pocket more often then not. For some reason if he got pressure 10 snaps out of 30 we all seem to think he was pressured all 30. That definitely was not the case Eli had time more often then not to step up and deliver a good ball. His footwork was jittery a lot when it didn’t need to be. He under or over threw most of his deep balls. Even his check down passes were high behind early or late when he had time to deliver a good ball His short crossing passes were high and behind often as well.
So I came to this conclusion. We can blame the line for all of this Flowers getting the bulk of the blame. But for a 14 year vet getting 22.5 million when he has a clean pocket. He should make better decisions and deliver a better football. This is on Eli. If he has happy feet and poor mechanics due to not trusting his protection then he needs to hang it up. Seriously. Other QBs get hit and hurried as well. They stand and deliver a good football when needed.
The Giants line run blocking last year was better then advertised. Why they didn’t run more is on coaching. BUT when Eli play action and again clean pocket he still threw a poor ball more often then not. Receivers had to go get them ball reaching stopping or jumping more then they should. Yes he got pressured more then most. But when he was clean and wasn’t hurried he still threw way to many bad balls
Question. Will Nate Solder solve what we all think is Eli lack of trust in his protection? Or is this what Eli is at this point in his career ?? So I went and watched a few others. Cousins Ryan and Rivers I stayed away from your more Elite passers to be fare. I only watched a handful of plays on each. They all had similar problems with protection. None of it was perfect. They all had to move left or right or back or forward to deliver there throws. I suspect that normal across the NFL. There is never perfect protection and the QB has to use his feet and mechanics to move set and deliver a good ball. So I watched a few plays from his rookie and early games in his career. Ding ding. His mechanics broke down and he had similar problems. Throwing off his back foot with pressure. Moving in the pocket his feet got ugly a jittery and delivered a poor ball. It appears Eli has always had this problem and has had to work a lot on it over the years
Conclusion
Even with Solder and a better line Eli may still be the Eli we have been watching last few years I’m going to stick with my guns here. I’m no longer blaming the line here. This is Eli at this point in his career. I suspect he will continue with this kind of play being streaky erratic play. We will get a few amazing games from him then typical what are you thinking plays putting the team in bad situations. Adding Nelson or Barkley will give the offense more manageable situations but Eli chances of him still throwing bad balls is probable. Staying at 2 and taking QB is a must Weather it’s Darnold Rosen or mayfield (staying away from Allen. He maybevthe sane QB we have ). I’m going with accuracy and anticipation on throws. Rosen is my 1 mayfield is now my2 and Darnold my 3. I will be happy with any of the top 4 QBs here. I just think guys like Allen who has accuracy problems will always have it. Guys that are naturally accurate QBs will always be accurate QBs
