While this will never happen the Giants need to look in the mirror starting with moves made in 2018.
If their plan was to try an placate an uneasy fan base with the hope that 2017 was an aberration, they would be a better team when players returned healthy and by drafting Barkley with an aging Eli, OBJ, and Engram their offense would be explosive enough and provide enough Sports Center highlights that fans would overlook their short comings. They were mildly successful with Barkley's rookie season.
Where they failed is t recognize this was a short term fix and they failed to address the bigger concerns.
I truly believe had TC not scooped in and signed Norwell when it was widely thought that he would reunite with DG things would be different. DG had said you build your OL from the Center out. Having an All Pro like Norwell as one Guard and drafting a then promising Hernandez would have solidified the interior of the line, which would allow Eli the ability to step up in the pocket. Losing Norwell led to signing Solder and we all know how that turned out.
From there more bad signings followed as they attempted to fill in that OG position.
IMHO DG's biggest failure wasn't drafting Barkley it was not having a viable Plan B if he failed to get Norwell.
DG's performance has improved but I believe the straw that eventually will break his back is drafting Jones. Jones may become an adequate NFL QB but he does not have the "IT" factor where he can carry or lead a team to victory. If they truly loved Herbert he should have drafted Josh Allen, the LB from Kentucky, instead of Jones, let Eli play out his last year and found a way to draft Herbert the following year.
This organization need to look in the mirror and recognize that this is 2021 not 1981. I still believe you build a team, especially one in the northeast, by starting with your OL and DL. You can win and negate all these pass happy teams by having a dominating running game and defense. All QBs have bad games. Most recently we've seen Allen, Mahomes, Rodgers, Stafford, Wilson and even the great TB12 have several bad games in a row.
If you have a dominating running game and D the passing game is a complimentary piece, the icing on the cake.
Like I said I doubt this happens. But IMHO you build the OL and D this year in FA and the draft. You do not draft a QB early on. Roll the dice with Jones again. He gets the remaining games in 2021 and 2022 to prove himself, which I doubt he will. Then at the end of the 2022 season look to see who is available at QB either as a FA or draft pick. Take the Ron Rivera approach, build a team first then add the QB to a solid foundation.
