RE: Thomas
The concern is what booney posted>>>>> bbwc.com/post/97035/thread
Greg robinson and ereck flowers college tape looked great also. We can't forget that. Taht being said I'll give my 2 cents FWIW.
I'm not as critical of Thomas as some others are... My issue is not with the prospect as much as the idea of taking an OT in the top 5. I think if you want an OT you HAVE TO trade back first and hedge your bets. Been saying that since day 1 with this draft class.
Hitting on a LT is like a lotto just like hitting on a QB is. Plus you have a few similarly graded prospects then it makes all the sense in the world to trade back. Otherwise trade up from round 2 for a slipper, but what if none of them slip?
Penie Sewell may change my mind in 2021 or 2022 when he comes out as being a guy to just take in the top 5. Taylor Lewan I was all in on as a top 5 guy. Laremy Tunsil I liked a lot and was fine with top 10. He is the last one I can remember being totally sold on.
This year I'm not 100% sold on any of them. The guy that seems most dominant to me is becton. Technique is an issue though. The georgia Oline is well coached but I don't think Thomas is quite as good of an athlete of some of the other guys in the draft.
Wirfs is by far the best in space but not a strong anchor. Becton is by far the true boss for rag dolling dudes, but technique is lacking (lack of coaching?). Thomas is the most well coached and executes technique but I worry about his balance a bit. Wills is a one year wonder and seems a bit underwhelming sometimes to me.. I wonder if wills will get swallowed up in the NFL.
Ya know whose pass sets I liked the best? Leatherwood. But he went back to school. I thought he was the safest pick of the bunch as far as pass pro goes.
The bottom line to me is trade back if they want an OT. If I had to pick one, I'd gamble and go with Becton only because I think i can coach him up and if he can get his technique consistent he can be a boss. But I'm a ceiling guy and not risk averse (so long as Iwe're trading back and hedging our bets).
Then there is Josh Jones. Josh Jones looks the part the most of any of them. He really looked absolutely perfect in pass pro in reps i saw. Great bend for a big man. Latching on etc. Not sure he can run block in the NFL though... He does use leverage which is good. But I'm not sold on his power to pull it off in the run game and follow through and get a push against NFL competition... he hasn't proven it against top competition in college, but he did well at the senior bowl.
So yeah they all have first round grades, but none of them are true top 5 guys or even true top 10 guys (in any draft) in my mind.
